Although autumn has already begun, high temperature?continues?to affect?many parts of the country, resulting in rising electricity load. Faced with severe challenge of ensuring power supply, Three Gorges HPP, a hydropower station boasting the world's largest installed capacity, has?fully utilized?the "core" peak shaving capability of large-scale hydropower. From August 7th to 14th, it executed 165 times of the?starting-up and shutdown?process, with an average daily peak regulating capacity of over 7 million kilowatts and a maximum peak regulating range of 7,800 MW, providing strong support for the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
Three Gorges HPP is a backbone power source for China's "West-East Power Transmission Project" and "South-North Power Transaction Project". It has installed a total of 34 hydro-generating units (including two 50 MW hydro-generating units), with a total installed capacity of 22,500 MW,?and a designed annual power generation capacity of 88.2 TWh. The first batch of operating units were put into operation in 2003.
As the operation and management body of the Three Gorges HPP, CYPC,?which?is?a subsidiary of CTG, resolutely shoulders the responsibility of ensuring power supply during peak power consumption season, strictly follows the dispatch instructions of the superior dispatching agency, and continuously optimizes the power generation curve based on the upstream inflow process of the Yangtze River and the load characteristics of the power distribution area, while ensuring flood control safety in the Yangtze River Basin. Since August 9th, the daily peak shaving capacity of the Three Gorges HPP has gradually increased from 6,500 MW to 7,800 MW, which fully meets the electricity demand during peak hours in the power distribution area. Simultaneously, the operation &?maintenance personnel of the power station has strictly implemented the system of vote-counting recitation and operation-monitoring,?accurately executed each operation instruction, and closely monitored the operating conditions of units, ensuring that the units always maintain the optimal operating conditions, and the standby units can be started and used at any time.
Next, under the unified scheduling of the Changjiang Water Resources Commission (CWRC), State Grid, and China Southern Power Grid, CTG will continue to strengthen the prediction and forecasting of water and rainfall regimes in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River basin and the temperature in the power distribution area,?and simultaneously?strengthen equipment operation & maintenance management, and carry out joint optimal scheduling of cascade reservoirs. It will?also?take solid measures in flood control, work safety, and power supply assurance. On the basis of ensuring flood control safety in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, it strives to?achieve stable and more power?generation of cascade hydropower plants, providing a continuous supply of green electricity to the power distribution area.
